Peacefully in St. Joseph’s Care, Cornwall on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 Richard “Dick” Hector Fortier of Cornwall in his 85th year.  Beloved husband of Anna-May (née Laponsee) for sixty years.  Loving father of Jeanne (Henry) Holden and Michel (Joanne), both of Cornwall.  Cherished grandfather of Dylan, James and Stephanie, all of Cornwall.  Dear brother of Jeannine (William) Watters of Brockville.  Sadly missed by several nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by his parents Jeanne and Romuald Fortier, sister Juliette Bourget and brother-in-law Dorice Bourget.

As a youth, some of Dad’s best times were spent with his grandparents Marie-Louise and Joseph Goulet on their farm in Embrun.  His summertimes were filled with adventures.  As a young man, Dad began a career with the S.D.&G. Separate School Board where he eventually served as transportation manager for the district until his well deserved retirement.  Along the way, Dad became a third degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, Council #755 making many friends there and throughout his life on whom he could always depend.  Dad also became an avid downhill skier, and continued to ski until the tender age of 82.  He liked to bike ride, swim laps daily (while his health allowed) and converse about local history, hockey or any current event while enjoying breakfast or a beverage.  Dad and Mom travelled widely, spending quality time with each other, forming a very powerful bond and providing our family with a wonderful example of marriage.  Dad liked a good laugh and a clean car, but adored and treasured his three grandchildren.  He was stoic and courageous until the end of his earthly days.  His journey to everlasting peace now begins...we trust he will be welcomed with opens arms.
